Athletes can suffer with gastrointestinal distress when consuming carbohydrate fuel during high-intensity exercise. Hydrogel Technology is the innovation that encapsulates the carbohydrates, carrying them through the stomach to be absorbed.

The Drink Mix becomes a hydrogel upon contact with stomach acid, encapsulating the carbohydrates and helping to reduce the sensation of liquid sloshing in the stomach when consuming fuel during exercise.
Drink Mix now contains a minimal amount of sodium bicarbonate. Many sports drinks are acidic, which can harm teeth enamel. The sodium bicarbonate in Drink Mix helps to maintain a neutral pH (not lower than pH6).

Improved, lower viscosity - Drink Mix is now less thick, making it easier for athletes to consume more carbohydrates during training or racing.
More reliability when using hard water
Improved tolerance to higher levels of calcium in water — up to 80 mg calcium/L. The viscosity of Drink Mix stays the same even when mixing with harder, high-calcium water. This means more reliable fueling with Drink Mix even when traveling to races and using unfamiliar water sources.

The science behind it.
A gut reaction
Drink Mix is a pH-sensitive liquid when mixed with 500ml of water. When it meets the acidic environment of the stomach, an instant reaction occurs that converts the liquid into a hydrogel. The hydrogel encapsulates the carbohydrates, enabling the transportation of fuel through the stomach. Once in the intestines, the hydrogel dissolves and the carbohydrates are released and absorbed.
A gut feeling
Comfort matters. Consuming large volumes of liquid during sport can cause a sloshing or bouncing sensation in the stomach. It’s a feeling of discomfort that limits performance. By changing from a liquid to a hydrogel, Drink Mix makes it easier for athletes to consume liquid fuel with high concentrations of carbohydrates and maintain high-intensity performance.
