WHO IS BETTY?
ABOUT BETTY DESIGNS
We thrive on sweat + live for fashion. We believe powerful prints + colorful tones play best in harmony with one another. Our drive to be better than our best keeps us moving + pushing + chasing. We didn’t love the boundaries that held back endurance apparel, so we moved the limits. United by our passion for sport + belief in ourselves, we wear what we want, when we want, how we want. We dare to declare that strong is sexy and badass is beautiful. Betty Designs is the manifestation of Every. Single. Thing. that sparks our fire. And it’s for every body.
ABOUT THE LOGO
The skull / butterfly logo has strong roots back to the founder’s triathlon racing days where she would wear a skull necklace as a superstitious emblem to push her personal boundaries in the face of adversity. Women can be both badass + fierce competitors, but feminine at the same time. This logo is built on the concept that women can be both strong + beautiful. #BadassIsBeautiful
ABOUT THE FOUNDER + DESIGNER
Kristin gets her kicks from breaking the laws of design + reimagining the infinite possibilities of athletic aesthetics. An athlete and graphic designer with a keen eye for color, Kristin has made her mark by translating her vision to coveted endurance apparel.
Embarking on her design career as a lead footwear designer for L.A. Gear in the early 90s, Kristin stepped out on her own 6 years later to pursue freelance opportunities. Working closely with an elite roster that included No Fear, AVIA, K-Swiss, World Triathlon Corporation, Zoot Sports, Competitor Publishing, Triathlete Magazine, Kestrel bicycles and rykä. A continued evolution in sport + fashion led her to co-create Her Sports + Fitness magazine, and eventually, Betty Designs.
Founding her wildly successful endurance brand in 2010, Betty Designs has become synonymous with playful patterns, bold wordplay, original collaborations with top endurance brands, elite athletes and celebrities, and altered the trajectory of women’s triathlon + cycling apparel. The result is a cult following of loyal customers + brand ambassadors known as the Betty Squad who jump at the chance to grab the latest kit drop.
A seriously proud mother, wife, designer and athlete, Kristin splits her time between San Diego and Park City, keeping fit and inspiring women of all ages to continue to challenge themselves. Not one for sitting still, you can typically find her getting busy on the bike and hustling on two feet, while throwing in ski + surf + gym sessions whenever she gets the chance. A huge follower of fashion, she loves chatting all things streetwear with her son and creating captive imagery together with her husband and photographer, Matt. Outside of crafting the look of the brand together, they also share a passion for fitness + art + beautiful photography.
Geeking out on the latest happening in runway couture while staying on top of endurance culture, Kristin is obsessed with developing the look and feel of Betty Designs to create a modern brand embedded with a hefty dose of badassery.
Whether you vibe with Kristin or not, she is unapologetically herself and will never look back down on her beliefs, skip out on a challenge, or make excuses. It is her greatest wish to empower others to feel + perform their best by wearing something they love.
The skull + butterfly logo has its roots in triathlon. Back in my racing days, I would superstitiously wear a skull necklace around motivate myself to “toughen up” during a race. To me, there is nothing more fun than seeing a woman kick ass on a race course and then be able to go home, clean up, and be a lady. It is the belief that women can be both strong + beautiful that motivates me. Racing with the boys while looking like a girl is the heart + soul of the brand. It’s an attitude for female endurance athletes. The premise was to create something unlike anything else on market. My goal is to empower women to look good, feel good, and go out there and kick ass.
