What to look for in a wetsuit and how to adjust your swim

⦿ A wetsuit must fit properly to ensure efficient movement through the water.
⦿ A good fit should allow for deep breathing and a comfortable range of motion through the shoulders and lats.

⦿ Adjust your stroke to leverage the extra buoyancy provided by the suit. A few ways to do that:

➼ RELAX! Let the wetsuit do the work for you. You can afford to release some tension from your body when the suit is holding you up and don’t need to be so aggressive with your kick.

➼ When you have the suit on the power and magic happens with what you do under the water. Make sure you are still extending and being patient before you get into the catch then driving the water back towards your feet with intention using your hand, wrist and forearm as one big unit!

➼ Recover the arm in a more relaxed manner than you usually do when you have the suit on. Try to loosen up the shoulders as you bring the arm over the top.

⦿ Most top-end wetsuits are designed to similar specifications, but fit variables such as proportions and neoprene thickness can differ. Find the suit that fits you best!
⦿ Practice swimming in a wetsuit before race day to get used to the different feeling they'll give your stroke and movement you'll need to be efficient.
