Heading Down to the Pool: Swim Checklist

Coach’s Tip:
The simple key to getting better at swimming is to get into the pool and swim. The only way you’ll do that is if you enjoy swimming. For most triathletes, swimming is the hardest discipline to master. But by being consistent - and using tools such as a pull buoy (a real game-changer) - your swimming will improve out of sight. We recommend swimming at least three times per week.

Do you have everything ready for your next pool swim? There’s nothing worse than arriving at the pool only to realise you’ve forgotten your goggles, towel, or even your swim kit.

To help you stay organised and stress-free, here’s a handy checklist from the team at Sported.

1. Organise Your Swim Kit

- Blue70 Swim Bag - Spacious, durable, and designed for swimmers. The perfect way to keep all your pool gear in one place.

- Mesh Bag - Great for carrying wet items or training equipment separately.

- Water Bottle – Staying hydrated is just as important in the pool as on the bike or run.

2. Goggles

Don’t forget your goggles! Check out the range of Blue70 goggles available on Sported.ae. Whether you’re swimming indoors or outdoors, we’ve got a lens option for you.

3. Paddles

Paddles are a great tool for building upper body strength and developing the muscles specific to your swim stroke. The key is choosing the right size - ideally just a little larger than your hand.

- Strokemaker Paddles - A classic choice trusted by swimmers for years.

- Otion Paddles - A new design that helps refine your stroke and improve technique.

Using paddles correctly can help you swim stronger and more efficiently, but always make sure not to overuse them to avoid shoulder strain.

4. Pull Buoy

A pull buoy is a fantastic training tool for two reasons:
1. It helps you maintain a better body position in the water.
2. It reduces the need to kick with your legs, keeping your heart rate lower so you can focus on improving your catch and pull technique.

Check out our range:

- Blue70 Pull Buoy – A lightweight, durable option perfect for everyday training.

- Eney Buoy – The "mother of all pull buoys", designed for serious swimmers who want to take their training up a level.

5. Fins

Fins are a versatile tool that every swimmer should consider packing. They’re especially useful for recovery swims and targeted drill work, helping you maintain good technique while reducing overall effort.

Short fins in particular encourage proper kicking form and can add variety to your swim sessions.

Check out the range of DMC fins on Sported.ae to find the pair that suits your training needs.

6. Post-Swim Recovery

And finally… don’t forget your post-swim shower routine. After putting in the laps, dive into the Trihard range of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash to remove the stubborn "eau de chlorine" smell and soothe away those goggle eyes.

Especially useful if it’s date night after training! 😉

Final Word

Preparation is key to making the most of your swim training. With this checklist, you’ll never have to cut a session short because of forgotten kit. Pack your bag the night before, and head to the pool with confidence.

Because the smoother your training, the stronger your performance on race day.
