The Ultra 3 is a more modern take on the Ultra 2 with its bouncier and softer SuperFOAMance midsole which is made of hi-tech and ultralight nitrogen infused material that offers extreme cushioning and energy return. This new foam is a modern, supercritical foam that is lighter, more responsive, more comfortable and more propulsive than a traditional EVA foam. Compared to other foams, SuperFOAMance is more durable and does not rip as easily.
This version of the Ultra has a more rockered midsole to make the stride smoother and to drive the runner forward.
Between the midsole and outsole you can find a full length rock plate which protects the bottom of the foot from sharp rocks and sticks. The rock plate also makes the shoe torsionally more rigid and decreases energy leakage.
The Ultra 3’s upper is multizone engineered mesh, which is extremely light, breathable and comfortable one-piece upper. The shoe’s heel is soft and is made of antislip material to prevent the foot from slipping out during the performance.
VJ's innovative Fitlock-system offers an optimal fit for the shoe by locking the foot from the arch. It also protects the arch from the impacts the foot is facing while running.

Superior Contact - outsole
The Superior Contact butyl rubber outsole and its 4,5 mm lugs will take care of the grip in any terrain.
2 Make sure that you are wearing the same socks as you would typically wear with these kinds of shoes.
3 Wearing these socks, stand on the sheet of paper with your foot perpendicular to the wall and your heel against the wall.
4 Then ask your friend to draw a line just in front of the longest point of your foot. Repeat with both feet and take the longer distance to determine your size.
5 Use a ruler and measure the distance between the wall and the line that you drew to find your size. If you are between sizes, choose the bigger one.

I recently took the VJ Ultra 3s for a long technical run on Jebel Jais in the Hajar mountain range, and they performed exceptionally well, especially on loose scree and rocky trails. The grip is where these shoes truly stand out. Whether climbing steep switchbacks or descending loose, unstable slopes, the outsole provided consistent traction and control — easily among the best I’ve experienced in this terrain. Designed for technical mountain running, the Ultra 3s offer a snug, secure fit and excellent ground feel without sacrificing protection. The upper held up well against sharp rocks and abrasive surfaces, and breathability was sufficient for the early morning RAK heat. While they don’t match the lightweight speed of shoes like the La Sportiva Bushido II or Nnormal Kjerag, the VJ Ultra 3s shine in stability, grip, and rugged reliability — all essential for runners tackling remote and uneven terrain. They're built for confidence in tricky conditions, which makes them ideal for the Hajar mountains and similar technical trails. Overall, if you're looking for a durable, grippy trail shoe for steep climbs, loose rock, and demanding mountain runs, the VJ Ultra 3 is a top contender. It may not be the fastest, but it's incredibly capable and trustworthy where it counts. I haven't tried them in Jebel Yabanah yet, as the 8 hour loop is tough in June but i would assume these would do really well on that loop as well. Highly recommended for technical trail runners and mountain athletes in the UAE and beyond.
True to its moto, the grip is legendary, especially on the UAEs loose scree, nothing like it. The new foam is bouncy and the shoe is light and nimble. The upper is also very breathable, great for higher temps. My only concern is the rough material used in the ankle collar and the heal, it's 'suede like" and might dig into your heal collar bone. You can easily prevent this by taping the area if your foot geometry is a candidate. Otherwise, excellent shoe
