Find out more about Energy Gels
When to Take Energy Gels?
We recommend taking energy gels for exercise lasting between an hour and 90 minutes. This duration of exercise will deplete the body’s energy reserves enough for the boost of OTE sports energy gels to be effective.
As for how long energy gels take to kick in, this can vary depending on factors such as metabolism and body weight. Generally, they take around 15 minutes to take effect, so try to use them approximately halfway through your session.
How to Work Out Your Marathon Gel Needs?
Marathon gels can play a vital role in maximising endurance and reaching new bests on race day, but everyone’s needs will be different when it comes to how often they will need to use a marathon gel throughout the race.
Firstly, consider your pace. The faster you run, the more energy you will burn, so taking a gel every 20 minutes can sustain carbohydrate levels. Slower runners may prefer to use one every 30 minutes. Also, taller and heavier runners may prefer to consume 3 per hour (rather than 2) to sustain performance.
When to Use Energy Gels While Running?
Thanks to their high-carb content, energy gels can be used during long runs to maintain energy levels and replenish electrolytes lost through sweat. Knowing when to take them comes down to assessing the intensity and duration of your exercise, though we recommend a general rule: use one gel around 30 to 45 minutes into your workout.
For runs or workouts under 60 minutes, energy gels are not required. This is because the body’s energy reserves should be well-equipped for handling such a short duration of exercise.
When Should You Use Hybrid Gels?
The perfect time to use hybrid gels is during a hybrid workout lasting between an hour and 90 minutes. Hybrid sessions of this duration demand enough of the body for the ingredients of our hybrid gels to be most effective, particularly sessions of mixed intensity that include strength training and a long run or sprints.
Our hybrid gels take around 15 minutes to kick in, so they’re best used around the halfway mark of your workout. This will give them time to take effect, boost your energy, and help you train harder for the remainder of your hybrid workout.
